Hello there, my name is Tyler Ross; I am from Cincinnati Ohio where I was born and raised my entire life there. My family and I always did our best to have a family dinner every night but I was a very picky eater so our choices were limited. However as I got older I finally grew up and tried real food! Ever since then my family and I were able to eat all kinds of great food every night for dinner. In Cincinnati we have lots of choices of good diverse food since it’s a very German town. We would often eat all kinds of meat in amazing German recipes but we are a very Irish so we always make sure we had potatoes often. Food to me is special because it seems like it is very easy for people to bond over a good meal.
The first example that really jumps out in my mind would be my family dinners every night when it was possible. It felt great to sit down at the end of a large hard day at school or after a sporting event and relax and eat with my family. There was always tons of things to talk about and once my brother went away to college it was a great way of catching up with him anytime he came home and visited for a weekend or was on break. Sometimes though we would go to his school and there were always so many great foods there on campus. We even met up with a side of my family who I had not seen in 10 years. At first it was quite awkward because we all had grown up so much and were not sure of what to talk about but once we sat down to dinner and got some food in front of us we were talking like we never skipped a beat. Food is great for bonding.
Another great experience I had involving bonding over food came during football season my senior year. Our first game we lost, it was a rough loss to a team we should have beat, our chemistry between our starters we terrible and you could tell something was wrong. The next week before our game we had all our starters get together and have a giant pasta dinner. This was immensely helpful. Our team was made up of juniors and seniors and for the most part none of us really knew people outside our class or position very well so when we actually sat down and had dinner together we bonded and that night was a blow out. We beat that team so bad we put in the J.V. Team. That feeling was great and for every week since we had the same dinner and we were able to keep our schools playoff streak alive. Food is incredible for bonding and is a great tool.
